Brow Lift

Home | Face | Brow Lift

As we age, it’s natural for our skin to sag and develop wrinkles. One area particularly prone to signs of aging is the forehead and eyebrows. Dr. Frank Lalezar uses cutting-edge brow lift techniques to lift and tighten the skin on the forehead, making you look more youthful.

How The Forehead Ages

The forehead is one of the first areas of the face to show signs of aging. This is because the skin on the forehead is thin and lacks the support of underlying fat or muscle. As we age, the skin begins to lose its elasticity, and the muscles that control the movement of the eyebrows become weaker. This can lead to wrinkles on the forehead and eyebrows and sagging or drooping of the eyebrows.

What is Brow Lift?

A brow lift is a surgical procedure that aims to lift and tighten the skin on the forehead and raise the eyebrows to a more youthful position. The procedure generally involves making small incisions on the forehead to trim away excess skin, tighten underlying muscles, and raise the position of the eyebrows. Depending on your unique needs, several techniques can be used, including the traditional open brow lift, the endoscopic brow lift, and the temporal lift.

Types of Brow Lift

Traditional Brow Lift
The traditional brow lift involves making an incision across the top of the forehead, just above the hairline. The skin is lifted, and the underlying muscles and tissues are repositioned to create a more youthful appearance. This technique is effective, but it leaves a large scar that goes across the forehead.

Endoscopic Brow Lift
The endoscopic brow lift uses several small incisions and an endoscope (a thin tube with a camera attached) to lift the skin and tissues. This technique allows the surgeon to make more precise adjustments and results in less scarring. Furthermore, since it involves extremely small incisions, downtime is minimal.

Temporal Brow Lift
The temporal brow lift involves making incisions in the temples and lifting the skin in that area to raise the eyebrows. This technique is less invasive than the traditional or endoscopic brow lift but may not be as effective at lifting the entire forehead and eyebrows. Your surgeon will determine if you’re a good candidate for this procedure.

The Goals of Brow Lift:

  • Improving the appearance of the forehead and eyebrows
  • Lifting and tightening the skin on the forehead
  • Reducing the appearance of forehead lines and frown lines
  • Making the forehead look smoother and more youthful
  • Raising the eyebrows into a more youthful position
  • Improving vision by raising the eyebrows and opening up the field of vision

Combine Browplasty With Blepharoplasty

Sometimes, a brow lift may be combined with blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), which involves removing excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids. If you have sagging upper eyelids obstructing your vision, you may need to correct drooping on the forehead and eyelids. In those situations, your surgeon may recommend combining a browplasty with an upper blepharoplasty. Your brow lift can also be combined with facelifts and neck lifts.

Your Recovery Journey

After an endoscopic brow lift, you can expect some swelling and bruising, which should resolve within a few weeks. You should avoid strenuous activity and direct sun exposure for a few weeks. You may also be advised to sleep upright to reduce swelling. Most people can return to work and other normal activities within a week, but please follow your surgeon’s aftercare instructions and take it easy to ensure optimal healing.

Dr. Lalezar’s Surgical Technique

Dr. Lalezar is a board-certified plastic surgeon who prefers to perform the endoscopic brow lift as it allows for a more precise and minimally invasive procedure. During your consultation, he carefully examines your forehead, discusses your goals and concerns, and determines the appropriate brow lift technique. In most cases, he recommends the endoscopic technique because it allows him to adjust the underlying tissues via extremely small incisions.

During an endoscopic brow lift, Dr. Lalezar makes one-eighth-of-an-inch incisions at the hairline to insert the endoscope into the forehead. The endoscope allows the surgeon to adjust the underlying muscles and tissues, trim away excess skin, and gently elevate the brows to a more youthful position to give your face a more refreshed and youthful look. This technique results in less scarring and a quicker recovery time. The procedure concludes within 2 hours.
