Breast reduction with Dr. Frank Lalezar, MD, addresses concerns such as back and shoulder pain, bra strap grooving, and lifestyle limitations caused by overly large breasts. His approach focuses on relieving discomfort, restoring balanced proportions, and creating natural, beautiful results tailored to your goals with compassionate, expert care.

What is a Breast Reduction?

Breast reduction, also called reduction mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to create smaller, lighter, and more proportionate breasts. Many women seek this surgery to relieve physical symptoms like chronic back, neck, or shoulder pain, skin irritation, or difficulty finding supportive clothing.

Beyond improving comfort, breast reductions can also enhance posture, mobility, and self-confidence. By reshaping the breasts and repositioning the nipple and areola, the procedure creates a lifted, youthful contour. Dr. Lalezar offers personalized breast reductions to align with your proportions and personal goals, ensuring results that not only look natural but also bring lasting relief and balance.

Dr. Lalezar’s Approach to Breast Reductions

Initial Consultation

Dr. Lalezar conducts a thorough evaluation of your breasts, chest wall, and body proportions. He takes precise measurements of breast volume, ptosis (sagging), nipple-areola position, and elasticity. He also reviews your medical history, including prior breast surgeries, pregnancies, and family history of breast disease. When needed, he orders diagnostic imaging such as a mammogram to ensure your baseline health is optimal before proceeding.

Preoperative Planning

Dr. Lalezar provides customized instructions regarding medications, supplements, and lifestyle factors such as nicotine or alcohol use, which can impair wound healing. He will guide you on fasting requirements before anesthesia and recommend arranging a recovery space at home. His team ensures that you understand the recovery timeline and have transportation and caregiver support ready for the immediate postoperative period.

Anesthesia and Comfort

On the day of surgery, you’ll receive general anesthesia administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist to ensure full comfort and safety. You will essentially be asleep throughout the procedure, so you won’t feel any pain or discomfort. Dr. Lalezar works with anesthesiology staff throughout the procedure to maintain stable blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygenation.

Incision Placement

Dr. Lalezar carefully selects incision patterns based on breast size, degree of reduction, and desired lift. Depending on your goals, he may use one of the following incisions:

  • Anchor-shaped incision: Encircles the areola, runs vertically to the inframammary fold, and extends along the breast crease. Best for substantial reductions and addressing excess skin.
  • Lollipop incision: Circles the areola and runs vertically to the inframammary fold. Suitable for moderate reductions where less skin removal is needed.
  • Periareolar incision: Limited to a circular incision around the areola. Reserved for minimal breast reductions and mild lifts.

Tissue Reshaping and Nipple Repositioning

Once incisions are made, Dr. Lalezar removes excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin while preserving blood supply to the nipple-areola complex. He reshapes the breast mound to restore projection and symmetry, using layered closure techniques to maintain contour and minimize dead space. The nipple and areola are repositioned to a more youthful height. Throughout this stage, he prioritizes preserving nipple sensation and breastfeeding potential when possible.

Closing and Recovery

After sculpting the breasts, Dr. Lalezar closes the incisions in multiple layers with dissolvable sutures, ensuring optimal wound support and minimizing scar tension. Surgical drains may be placed to prevent hematoma or seroma formation. The breasts are then dressed with sterile bandages and a compression bra to support healing. You’ll recover under close monitoring in a post-anesthesia care unit before being discharged home the same day.
